A Brief History of Riverside Teams
The Riverside Reds were one of the 8 original teams in the California League's Inaugural season in 1941. Low attendance forced the team to disband halfway through the season. California League baseball would not return until 1988 when the Salinas Spurs moved to Riverside and became the Riverside Red Wave. The Red Wave saw great success in their first season as they were crowned California League Champions in 1988. The inability to sell alcohol at the Riverside Sports Center led the team to move to the City of Adelanto after the 1990 season. Following the 1992 season, the Reno Silver Sox relocated to Riverside and became the Riverside Pilots. The team saw success on the field as they appeared in the playoffs each of the their three seasons, but lost in the first round each time. Again, the inability to sell alcohol at their stadium led to low attendance and after only three seasons the team moved to Lancaster and became the JetHawks.
